A FEW FUN FACTS:

The Boston Terrier is also known as The American Gentleman. They are a very social, playful breed with distinct color and markings.  Bred for companionship, they are a great addition to any family.  They are extremley friendly and love attention.  Boston Terriers were created in the mid-1800's from a Bulldog and English White Terrier.  Bostons quickly gained popularity because of their appearance and personality.

APPEARANCE:  Head to Tail

Bostons have a short, square head and small snout.  The eyes are very round and usually dark in color.  According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), a Boston's eyes should always be dark, either brown or black is acceptable but never blue.  It is stated by AKC that blue-eyed Bostons are disqualified from showing and should never be bred.  Their ears should stand erect and may appear large.  Their body is usually short and may appear to be slightly square in shape near the shoulders, while they will be more rounded near the rear.  They will have a short or screw tail.  The tail should never position horizontal.  Their coat is short and smooth.  They shed very little if any at all.  They have a tuxedo appearance and are usually black in color with white markings.  However, a "Splash" or "Reverse" Boston will be white with black markings.  Occasionally they will be red and white or seal (appears black but has a red tint when in sunlight or otherwise bright lights) and white.

PERSONALITY:

All puppies and dogs are different.  Most Bostons have a great disposition and temperament.  They love socializing and playing either with other dogs and especially people.  They tend to become very possessive of their family and will generally bond very well.  They love to play with toys and exercise is essential for good health and mind.  They tend to mirror their master's mood and are rarely aggressive.  From personal experience, they are fantastic family dogs and are excellent for children.
